My main role with Sport in Action was to assist with and develop the U12 and U16 football teams as well as enhance the peer leaders' coaching abilities, within the Kamwala community. Although I was placed at an orphanage and school called Fountain of Hope, my football teams comprised of young players from all around the community, independent of their upbringing and background.
Every week day I would leave the house around half seven in the morning to commute to the Kamwala community field for my 9am sessions. I consistently had between thirty and sixty boys and girls between the ages of six and seventeen.
Since I arrived, along with my peer leader Steven, we implemented a girls only session on Mondays, where I was able to train and develop skills in a smaller setting, which they could then transfer and use in the coed sessions later during the week. The first Monday saw only two girls, but we had ten girls: all of whom were eager to come back to sessions, day in and day out.
